What to do on Saphala Ekadashi? (Saphala Ekadashi 2025 Dos)

  • Eat satvik food only on the night of Dashami Tithi and after taking bath the next morning, take a vow to observe the fast as per the rituals.
  • Light a ghee lamp in front of the idol of Lord Vishnu.
  • Offer her yellow flowers, fruits, and sandalwood. Also, worship Tulsi Mata and recite the Tulsi Chalisa.
  • While offering food to God, definitely include Tulsi leaves in it, because without Tulsi, Lord Vishnu does not accept the offering.
  • On this day, chant the mantra 'Om Namo Bhagavate Vasudevaya' or 'Hare Krishna Hare Krishna, Krishna Krishna Hare Hare' as much as possible.
  • Break the fast only during the auspicious time of Dwadashi Tithi.
  • Before breaking the fast, feed a Brahmin or a poor person and give him donations.
  • On this day, donating grains, clothes, fruits and especially sesame seeds is considered auspicious, because the importance of sesame seeds increases in the month of Paush.
  • Be sure to observe celibacy on this day.

  • Avoid eating rice on Ekadashi. It is believed that eating rice on this day results in an insect's birth in the next life.
  • Garlic, onion, non-vegetarian food, alcohol and all other tamasic things should not be consumed from Dashami Tithi to Dwadashi Tithi.
  • Tulsi leaves should not be plucked on Ekadashi. If necessary, pluck them a day in advance.
  • Cutting hair, cutting nails and shaving is considered taboo on this day.
  • Do not criticize anyone, do not lie to anyone and avoid disputes on Ekadashi day.
