The Untold Story of Ravana’s Funeral: How Lord Rama Convinced Vibhishana to Perform the Last Rites in Lanka

The epic saga of the Ramayana is filled with profound moral lessons, titanic battles, and watershed moments that define Hindu mythology. While the death of Ravana, the mighty king of Lanka, at the hands of Lord Rama marks the ultimate triumph of righteousness over evil, the sacred text also provides a detailed, lesser-known account of the events that immediately followed: the funeral rites of the fallen demon king.

Grand Preparations and Royal Funeral Rites in Lanka

Following Lord Rama's guidance, Vibhishana initiated comprehensive preparations for the cremation. As described in the Valmiki Ramayana, the arrangements reflected Ravana's status as a powerful king and scholar:

• Sacred Woods and Aromas: Quantities of premium sandalwood, agaru, and other sacred aromatic herbs were arranged for the pyre.
