Surrogate Mother Arrested for Demanding ₹1 Cr AfterExtorting ₹80 Lakh from Businessman
In a startling case of sustained extortion and criminal intimidation, the Indore Police have arrested a woman residing in the city's Rajmahal Colony for blackmailing a prominent local property dealer and his family for ₹1 crore after already extracting ₹80 lakh from them over several years. According to details shared by Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Disesh Aggarwal, the police took formal cognizance following an extensive complaint filed by Kritika Talreja, wife of real estate businessman Santosh Talreja. The couple, who are parents to a special-needs daughter, had initially entered into a mutual surrogacy agreement with the accused woman after medical complications prevented Kritika from carrying another pregnancy to term. However, what was intended to be an emotional and clinical solution for expanding their family gradually deteriorated into an aggressive extortion trap that disrupted the businessman's domestic and professional life for years.
From Surrogacy Agreement to Custodial Defiance: How the Blackmail Began
The dispute originated when the accused woman gave birth to the couple's first surrogate child, a daughter, but blatantly reneged on the legal understanding by refusing to hand over custody to the biological parents. The situation escalated further when a second child, a boy, was subsequently born through the ongoing surrogacy arrangement, with the woman again insisting on retaining physical custody. Taking unfair advantage of Santosh Talreja’s financial standing as a thriving property dealer, the accused coerced the family into purchasing a residential flat and locking in substantial fixed deposits (FDs) under the pretext of securing the children's financial future. Despite being legally married and living with her own husband, the accused even registered her husband’s biological daughter under the name Santosh, deliberately blurring family identities to create leverage and exploit the businessman's public reputation.
Fabricated Rape Case, Compromise Deals, and the Final ₹1-Crore Shakedown
The extortion strategy took a predatory turn in October 2019 when the woman escalated the pressure by lodging a formal rape case against Santosh Talreja at a local police station, only to later orchestrate a financial compromise that required continuous financial payouts. Armed with compromising and objectionable photographs of the businessman, the woman routinely threatened to show up at the couple's residence, create a public spectacle, and destroy their social standing within their neighborhood. Having successfully coerced ₹80 lakh out of the businessman through systematic threats over the years, she recently issued an ultimatum demanding an additional ₹1 crore lump-sum payment. Refusing to succumb to further financial exploitation, Kritika Talreja approached senior police officials with evidence of the ongoing harassment and extortion, leading to the immediate registration of an FIR and the prompt arrest of the accused woman under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
