PM Modi Pushes for Terrorism-Free Region Ahead of Central Asia and SCO Summit Tour

Ahead of his high-profile, two-nation diplomatic visit to Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan from August 29 to September 1, Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasized India's unwavering commitment to fostering a peaceful, stable, and terrorism-free zone. Highlighting India's active and constructive role within the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) since 2017, the Prime Minister stated that his upcoming engagements will focus on advancing regional security, enhanced economic connectivity, and mutual opportunities while combating transnational threats like terrorism, separatism, and extremism.

Deepening Bilateral Ties During State Visit to Uzbekistan

Prime Minister Modi’s diplomatic itinerary begins with a State visit to Tashkent, Uzbekistan, on August 29-30 at the formal invitation of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev. Highlighting the robust trajectory of bilateral relations, PM Modi noted that the India-Uzbekistan strategic partnership has witnessed remarkable growth across multiple sectors in recent years.

During his talks with President Mirziyoyev, discussions will center on expanding cooperation in international trade, digital connectivity, defense collaboration, energy security, and aligning shared visions for a progressive future. As part of his cultural outreach, the Prime Minister will also visit the Shastri Memorial and the Mahatma Gandhi Centre at the Tashkent State University of Oriental Studies, celebrating the deep historical and people-to-people bonds connecting both nations.

Attending the 26th SCO Summit in Bishkek

Following his engagements in Tashkent, PM Modi will travel to Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, at the invitation of President Sadyr Japarov to attend the 26th Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit, which marks the historic 25th anniversary of the founding of the regional organization.

Addressing global and regional leaders at the summit, the Prime Minister is slated to articulate India's core vision centered on security, trade connectivity, and economic opportunity. He will also participate in the grand opening ceremony of the 6th World Nomadic Games, honoring the rich living heritage and cultural traditions of Central Asia. On the sidelines of the multilateral summit, PM Modi is scheduled to hold high-level bilateral meetings with multiple SCO leaders to reinforce diplomatic ties and cooperative frameworks.
