In a statement posted on X, he expressed hope for the safe rescue of those still missing and a speedy recovery for the injured. Highlighting the ongoing administrative efforts, he urged Congress workers and local volunteers to extend every possible assistance to the relief operations. Emphasizing safety in vulnerable zones, he advised residents in hilly terrains to adhere strictly to government guidelines, stating, "Kerala stands united in this difficult time. I stand firmly with every affected family." Meanwhile, due to swollen rivers and landslide risks, the Travancore Devaswom Board has issued a high alert, advising pilgrims planning to visit Sabarimala for the Nirputhri festival on August 2 and 3 to reconsider or postpone their travel plans.

Tragic Landslide in Karnataka Claims Three Lives

While Kerala battles severe flooding, neighboring Karnataka has also suffered catastrophic weather-related tragedies, particularly in the Malnad region. A massive landslide struck the Indira Nagar area of Shivamogga district around 2:30 AM, burying a temporary residential shed under tons of mud and debris. The disaster claimed the lives of three members of a migrant worker family—identified as 35-year-old Mallikarjuna, his 28-year-old wife Nagaveni, and their three-year-old son—who originally hailed from Koppal district. Local police and Fire and Emergency Services personnel rushed to the site to execute a difficult rescue operation, recovering the bodies from the debris while shifting a seriously injured worker to Jayachamarajendra Hospital in Tirthahalli. This tragic incident has thrown a harsh spotlight on the grave vulnerabilities and safety risks faced by migrant workers inhabiting landslide-prone terrain during peak monsoon seasons.
