The controversy erupted during a public address in Kuknur town, located in Karnataka's Koppal district. Speaking to an audience, Minister Basavaraj Rayareddy praised Islam as a great and humane religion rooted in scientific principles and practical life lessons.

However, his assertion that "Islam is better than all other religions because it starts with humanity" drew sharp criticism from political opponents. Rayareddy added that while he does not frequently visit temples or monasteries, he studies comparative religions and histories, including Abrahamic traditions. His remarks quickly went viral, setting off a heated political debate across the state.

BJP Condemns Statements and Targets Congress Leadership

The Karnataka BJP launched a scathing counterattack against the state administration, with state BJP chief R. Ashoka taking to social media to denounce the remarks. Ashoka questioned the silence of senior Congress leadership, specifically targeting Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar over his frequent temple visits.
