This increase came after the market, which had reached near-high levels in the final trading session of the week amid weak signals from overseas markets, was dominated by intense profit-taking. This profit-taking was most pronounced in small- and mid-cap stocks, resulting in a greater number of small-cap stocks losing money during the week than those gaining. Meanwhile, several stocks also generated significant returns for investors and traders. Take a look at this week's performance.
Market performance: The stock market saw gains for the second consecutive week this week, although the mid-cap index weakened with a significant decline. After a week of fluctuations, the BSE Sensex closed at 85,231.92, up 669.14 points, or 0.79 percent, while the Nifty 50 gained 158.1 points, or 0.61 percent, to end the week at 26,068.15. In contrast, the mid-cap index fell 1 percent this week, and the small-cap index also fell 2 percent. Sectorally, the Bank index gained 0.6 percent, while the Nifty IT gained 1.6 percent and the Nifty Auto gained 1 percent. On the other hand, the Nifty Realty, Nifty Metal, and Nifty Media weakened, falling 3.7 percent, 3.3 percent, and 2.4 percent. Nifty's top gainers included Max Health, Eicher Motors, Bharti Airtel, and Axis Bank. Tata Motors PV, Tata Steel, Jio Financial, and Adani Power were the biggest losers this week. In the midcap space, Voda Idea, Supreme Industries, and Bharat Dynamics were among the biggest losers. Meanwhile, foreign institutional investors (FIIs) reduced their selling this week, selling shares worth a total of ₹188 crore. In contrast, domestic institutional investors (DIIs) remained strong buyers, investing a huge sum of ₹12,969.03 crore in the market. Where the biggest gains were made: The number of stocks that gained more than 10 percent during the week was less than 20. Meanwhile, the number of stocks that declined by more than 10 percent has been more than 40. Among the rising stocks, Astek Lifesciences has gained 31 percent, Shri Adhikari Brothers Television 28 percent, VLS Finance more than 26 percent, 5 Paisa Capital more than 18 percent, VLE E-Governance more than 17 percent, Narayana Hrudayalaya more than 16 percent, Avanti Feeds and Apex Frozen Foods have seen gains of around 15 percent.
