Deadly Ambush in Balochistan: 3 Security Personnel Killed, 29 Injured in Mastung District
A devastating ambush on a Frontier Corps (FC) convoy in Pakistan’s southwestern Balochistan province has left three security personnel dead and 29 others wounded. The attack, which occurred on Thursday, marks a sharp escalation in the security challenges facing the volatile region. The convoy was en route from the provincial capital, Quetta, to Kalat district along the strategic N-25 highway when it came under a coordinated assault in the Mastung district.
Military Convoy Targeted in Coordinated Strike
According to security sources, the militants executed the ambush with tactical precision. The attackers first immobilized the convoy using an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) blast, effectively trapping the vehicles, before surrounding the area and initiating a heavy exchange of gunfire. Security forces returned fire, but the initial blast and the subsequent tactical positioning of the militants inflicted significant casualties. Reports confirm that the attack caused severe damage to several vehicles, with one security bus being completely incapacitated, while the tires of three other vehicles were blown out by gunfire.
Critical Condition of Wounded Soldiers
The aftermath of the attack saw a rapid emergency response, with all 29 injured personnel rushed to a nearby medical facility. Medical staff have described the situation as dire, with 20 of the wounded soldiers reported to be in critical condition, while nine others sustained minor injuries. As of now, no militant organization has officially claimed responsibility for the strike. However, intelligence and security analysts are pointing toward the Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA), citing the operational signature of the attack as consistent with the group's past activities in the region.
Growing Unrest and Civilian Casualties
The security landscape in Balochistan has further deteriorated due to reports of collateral violence in neighboring districts. In a separate and unrelated incident in the Awaran district, local reports indicate that Pakistani security forces engaged in indiscriminate firing and heavy mortar shelling, resulting in the death of a civilian named Zahid. The human rights group PANK has strongly condemned this action, alleging that the forces fired without provocation and subsequently removed the victim's body, preventing the family from performing last rites. This series of violent events underscores the deepening instability and the ongoing civil-military tensions currently gripping the Balochistan province.
