Buckingham Palace to be King Charles’ official headquarters, plans to relocate to Clarence House
News Topical, Digital Desk : Buckingham Palace will now be the official London headquarters of King Charles III and Queen Camilla of Britain, not their residence. The £370 million revamp of Buckingham Palace is due to be finished by next year. Buckingham Palace access for the public The British monarch, Charles, 77, is set to live in ‘Clarence House’ rather than Buckingham Palace, which has been the royal residence since the time of Queen Victoria, a statement said on Friday.
This will open historic 18th-century Buckingham Palace to more of the public. But Clarence House has been the King and Queen's London home since 2005.
Charles has become the first monarch to publish his own personal tax bill, revealing a payment of £12.9million for the 2024-25 financial year. King Charles pays enough tax to rank in the top 100 taxpayers in Britain.
Buckingham Palace said: “On completion of this project the King and Queen are establishing Buckingham Palace as the ceremonial centre of royal life, the primary workplace of the Royal Household and a national heritage asset.”
The Palace building is undergoing a 10-year renovation project to replace boilers, electrical cables and pipes to reduce the risk of fire and flooding; it is expected to be finished by March 2027.
