UP Weather Alert: Red Alert Issued in Jhansi, Jalaun, Etawah, and Auraiya as Heavy Rains Lash UP
Monsoon fury continues to grip Uttar Pradesh, prompting the Meteorological Department to issue fresh and severe weather warnings across multiple districts. Following days of persistent downpours that disrupted daily life, particularly in eastern regions and Bundelkhand, weather authorities have escalated alerts, issuing a red alert for heavy to very heavy rainfall in Jhansi, Jalaun, Etawah, and Auraiya.
Red and Orange Alerts Issued Across Districts
According to updates released by the MeT department, severe weather conditions are expected to persist over the coming hours.

Red Alert Zones: Heavy to very heavy downpours accompanied by intense lightning remain highly likely in Jhansi, Jalaun, Etawah, and Auraiya.

Orange Alert Zones: Moderate to heavy rain with lightning has been forecast for nine districts, including Agra, Firozabad, Mainpuri, Etah, Kanpur Dehat, Kannauj, Farrukhabad, and surrounding areas.

Yellow Alert Advisory: Light to moderate showers accompanied by gusty winds ranging between 30–40 km/h and lightning have been predicted for Lucknow, Kanpur Nagar, Ayodhya, Rae Bareli, Amethi, Unnao, Barabanki, Sitapur, Hardoi, Lakhimpur Kheri, Bareilly, Moradabad, Aligarh, Mathura, and neighboring regions.
Heavy Rains Wreak Havoc in Varanasi With Record Downpours
The ongoing monsoon spell has already caused significant distress in parts of the state. In Varanasi, heavy rains over a 24-hour window crippled civic infrastructure. Recording a massive 128 mm of rainfall within a 12-hour span from Monday night to Tuesday morning, Varanasi witnessed severe waterlogging that disrupted traffic on major urban and rural arterial roads. Floodwaters entered residential streets and homes, while commercial markets, mandis, and hospital facilities—including areas around BHU—faced severe operational challenges. Tragically, rain-related incidents, including wall collapses, lightning, and electrocution, claimed multiple lives across the city, while Azamgarh recorded an even higher downpour of 180 mm.
