Health Security Shield for UP Teachers: CM Yogi Launches Major Cashless Medical Scheme Benefiting Millions

In a landmark step toward safeguarding the health and welfare of educators across the state, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath officially launched the "Chief Minister Teacher Cashless Medical Scheme" from Agra. Initiated during a grand ceremony held at Shivaji Mandapam in the Khandari campus of Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar University, the scheme aims to provide a robust financial and medical safety net. The rollout began with the symbolic handing over of health cards to initial beneficiaries, such as university professor Dr. Bhupendra Swaroop Sharma, while the statewide launch was broadcast live to educators assembled in districts across Uttar Pradesh.

MoU Signed With Punjab National Bank for Comprehensive Coverage

To seamlessly execute this social security initiative, a formal Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the Higher Education Department and Punjab National Bank. This welfare umbrella extends to professors, lecturers, and staff across state universities, non-government aided colleges, government institutions, self-financed colleges, and private universities throughout Uttar Pradesh. Including non-teaching personnel, the expanded program is projected to impact over 1 million individuals, reinforcing the state government's stated commitment to honoring and protecting educators who shape the future of society.

Key Features and Benefits of the Cashless Medical Scheme

The newly implemented healthcare scheme offers extensive financial support for medical emergencies, mirroring and expanding upon protections previously extended to basic and secondary education staff. Notable features of the program include:

  • Private Hospital Coverage: Eligible members receive free and cashless medical treatment of up to ₹5 lakh per year in state-listed private hospitals.

  • Government Hospital Treatments: There is no maximum financial ceiling or spending limit for medical procedures conducted within authorized government hospitals.

  • Family Security Circle: The coverage protects not only the working teacher or staff member but also all dependent family members.

  • Digital Health Cards: Beneficiaries can access immediate, paperless treatment at empanelled facilities by presenting their digital health cards.

  • SACHIS Portal Integration: The entire operational workflow is managed digitally through the SACHIS portal to ensure transparency and swift access.

Eligibility and Digital Verification Process

The expansive eligibility criteria cover higher education teachers, non-teaching staff, and broader educational workers across foundational tiers, totaling nearly 1.5 million employees and their dependents. To streamline card generation, a dedicated data collection portal has been established. Eligible staff submit their details online for verification by respective school principals, followed by final approvals from the District School Inspector (DIOS). Once verified and authenticated via digital e-KYC protocols, beneficiaries can instantly download their health cards and utilize comprehensive cashless medical services across network hospitals.
