News Topical, Digital Desk : New education policy created by CBSE for Class 12 board students in Gulf countries following exam cancellation, Centre tells Supreme Court New policy was created after considering private students in the Gulf who suffered due to the Class 12 board exams being cancelled due to the recent Iran-US war, the Central government on Monday told the Supreme Court. According to a new policy issued on June 21, marks of private candidates will be calculated adding 40 percent of theory marks secured in Class 10 board exams and 60 percent of theory marks obtained in the previous Class 12 board examination for subjects whose examinations were not conducted. Solicitor General Tushar Mehta who was appearing for the Centre and CBSE informed a bench of Justices SVN Bhatti and Vipul M Pancholi, that the cancellation of examination in seven Gulf countries had an impact on the regular school students and private candidates only.

In case of private candidates, one problem was that the schools which provided them the same could not provide them with internal assessment which include quarterly exam marks, half-yearly, or pre-board Marks.

Centre told Supreme Court Supreme Court was hearing a plea filed by one Pranshu Jigarkumar Patel a private candidate from Al Jubail (Saudi Arabia) challenging the non declaration of his Class 12 improvement examination result in accordance with the scheme for calculation of marks by the board. According to Pranshu Jigarkumar Patel's plea, while the marks evaluation scheme issued on March 27 by the board includes the case of regular student there was no provision made for the private candidates appearing in improvement examinations and therefore result has been deferred, creating an impediment in higher education. Patel, also alleged that his Class 12 improved examinations papers of two subjects Physics and Chemistry has been evaluated on actual marks basis and three canceled subjects namely Mathematics, English and Computer Science has been computed on a new formula.
