MMTC Shares Rally Over 7% on Strong Trading Volumes and Gold Recycling Expansion Plans

Shares of state-owned trading firm MMTC Ltd witnessed robust market activity on Thursday, August 20, 2026, surging over 7% during early trading sessions. The mid-cap stock saw intense buying momentum, pushing its intraday high to ₹67.50 compared to its previous close of ₹62.10, backed by significantly higher-than-average trading volumes across major bourses.

Stock Momentum and Volume Surge

The sharp upward movement in MMTC's share price was complemented by a heavy surge in trading turnover. Market participants closely monitored the counter as it broke past its recent ranges, reflecting heightened short-term interest among traders. Despite the sharp single-session rally, market analysts note that the stock has traded within a broader historical band over the past year, with a 52-week high of ₹78.35 and a low of ₹50.10, maintaining a steady focus from investors tracking public sector enterprises.

MMTC-PAMP Expands Gold Recycling Business

The stock action coincides with strategic business updates from MMTC-PAMP, a joint venture between MMTC Ltd—a Miniratna Government of India undertaking—and Switzerland-based bullion refinery MKS PAMP SA. In recent statements, Managing Director and CEO Samit Guha highlighted plans to aggressively expand the company's gold recycling operations.

As part of this expansion, the firm has introduced sustainable offerings like a 10-gram "Heritage" coin minted entirely from recycled gold of 999.9+ purity. While clarifying that the venture operates outside the scope of an NBFC and cannot directly offer loans or leasing against gold, leadership emphasized that scaling domestic gold recycling holds immense potential to reintroduce private gold into the economy and curb India's reliance on imports.
