Gold Prices Surge: Rates Jump by Rs 19,000 in August as US Dollar Weakens

Precious metals are experiencing a massive upward trend, with gold and silver prices recording significant gains on the Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX). Gold prices have climbed for the fifth consecutive week, surging by Rs 19,000 per 10 grams over the course of August alone. This latest rally has pushed gold past the Rs 1,62,000 threshold, bringing the commodity close to its previous all-time high of Rs 1,80,779 per 10 grams and recovering sharply from earlier monthly lows.

Key Drivers Behind the Precious Metal Rally

Market analysts point primarily to the weakening of the U.S. dollar as the catalyst driving investor interest back toward safe-haven assets like gold. The U.S. dollar recently hovered near a three-month low, and anticipated government buyback plans by the U.S. Treasury are expected to exert additional downward pressure on the currency. Furthermore, despite recent increases in crude oil prices, expectations of aggressive interest rate hikes by the U.S. Federal Reserve remain subdued, creating an ideal macroeconomic environment for bullion appreciation.

Silver Outpaces Gains and Expert Outlook

Alongside gold, silver prices have witnessed a dramatic jump. Silver values recently rallied by ₹10,673 in a single session, pushing prices to ₹248,124 per kilogram. Industry experts suggest that the upward momentum is likely to persist if resistance levels are breached. Ponmudi R, CEO of Enrich Money, notes that the current resistance zone for gold lies between Rs 162,500 and Rs 163,000, and breaking past this threshold could pave the way for a swift move toward Rs 165,000.
