Attention... WHO discloses top 10 cancer-causing substances, no. 1 is popular in India.
News Topical, Digital Desk : Cancer Causes: Oncologist Dr Vartika has shared a list of the top 10 cancer-causing substances that are most common. The WHO also classifies these substances as Group 1 carcinogens. Cancer is one of the most lethal diseases in the world. People are scared of the very sound of its name. Its cases are rising fast – and worryingly so. This is why people often ask what causes cancer. These are called “carcinogens”, substances that cause cancer. They are associated with a significantly increased risk of cancer with long-term exposure. Oncologist Dr Vartika Vishwani has revealed the top 10 carcinogens in Group 1 by World Health Organization (WHO) in an Instagram post. To our surprise many of these are part of our daily life. So let’s get down to what these top 10 cancer causing substances are.
10 – Sun UV rays
10. UV radiation, the harmful ultraviolet rays from the sun, according to oncologists. “Prolonged exposure to these rays can cause tanning beds on the skin, which in some cases can lead to cancer,” doctors say. It is considered very important to use sunscreen.
9. Aflatoxin
This compound is usually formed in stored grains, the doctor says. Especially during the rainy season, if you have stored wheat, peanuts or any other grain and it is showing any growth, do not eat it. This can release aflatoxin which can increase the risk of cancer.
8. Meat, Processed
Processed meats on the market should also be avoided. They are classified as Group 1 carcinogens by WHO. These include items such as sausage, bacon, salami, hot dogs, and ham.
Number 7 – Smog
Another major cause of cancer is air pollution. Doctors advise you to wear an N-95 mask when you go outside and look into buying an air purifier for your house.
Number 6- Hepatitis B and C
Hepatitis B and hepatitis C are viral infections of the liver. If these infections last for a long time, the risk of liver cancer increases many times over.
Number 5- Human Papilloma Virus (HPV)
Human papillomavirus (HPV) is a common virus and having it for a long time increases the risk of cervical cancer. Dr Vartika says getting vaccinated is key to reducing the risk of cancer. Regular screenings also encourage early detection of changes.
Number 4 - Booze
Alcohol is one of the leading risk factors for cancer. The more people drink, the higher their risk of cancer.
Number 3 - Second Hand Smoke
“Even if you don’t smoke, you are exposed to someone who does,” says Dr. Vartika. That is passive smoking, where you are exposed to smoke without actually smoking.
2 – Tobacco
We all know that smoking is one of the biggest causes of cancers. Smoking tobacco greatly increases the risk of developing cancers of the throat, mouth, lung, esophagus and many other types. If you are using cigarettes, bidi, hookah, khaini or gutkha then quit smoking from today.
1- Areca Nut
A lot of people eat betel nut every day. They think it’s not as dangerous as tobacco or cigarettes, but that’s not right. Dr. Vartika says that keeping betel nut in the mouth for hours can lead to the development of oral submucous fibrosis which can lead to cancer.
