New Delhi: Sri Lankan spinner Praveen Jayawickrama has been accused by the ICC of violating the anti-corruption code. The ICC said on Thursday that the Sri Lankan spinner has violated three rules. Jayawickrama is accused of not informing the apex body of cricket when he was approached for match fixing. Apart from this, he also tried to obstruct the investigation.
According to the ICC, Jayawickrama was approached to fix matches during the 2021 season of the Lanka Premier League played in Sri Lanka. Apart from this, he was asked to ask another player to fix matches in the same tournament.
Jayawickrama has 14 days
The ICC said in its statement that the Sri Lankan player deleted the messages in which he was asked to fix matches. The ICC said in its statement, "The Sri Lankan bowler deleted the messages in which he was asked to fix matches. Jayawickrama has 14 days from August 6 to respond to the allegations against him."
Debuted in 2021
The Sri Lankan bowler made his international debut in the year 2021 itself. He played his first Test match against Bangladesh in April. In this match, Jayawickrama took 11 wickets. He played his last match for Sri Lanka in June 2022. So far he has played five Test matches for Sri Lanka in which he has taken 25 wickets. In ODIs, he has taken only five wickets in five matches for Sri Lanka. In T20 too, he has taken two wickets while playing five matches for his country.
