Reliance Awards ₹1,000-Cr Mega Plant Deal to VA Tech Wabag; Stock Leaps 5%

Defying broad-based weakness across Dalal Street where the benchmark Nifty 50 slipped toward the 22,700 mark on Tuesday, October 27, 2026, shares of Chennai-headquartered water treatment major VA Tech Wabag surged over 5% in opening trade following a massive domestic project win. The BSE 1000-listed water technology conglomerate announced that it has secured a high-value contract from energy and petrochemical giant Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) to establish an advanced seawater desalination and remineralization facility at Jamnagar in Gujarat. Classified under the company's "mega order" category—a designation reserved exclusively for contracts valued in excess of ₹1,000 crore—the prestigious deal reinforces Wabag's market leadership in industrial water recycling and large-scale coastal desalination solutions.

Engineering a 302-MLD Water Facility: Jamnagar Technical Scope and Scalability

According to the official regulatory exchange filing, VA Tech Wabag will execute the Jamnagar project under an extensive engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) scope. The company has been tasked with managing the complete project lifecycle, encompassing proprietary plant design, core engineering, specialized equipment procurement, civil installation, commissioning, and final performance testing to convert raw Arabian Sea water into high-purity water for drinking and intensive industrial refining processes. The facility will be commissioned with an initial desalination throughput of 8,400 cubic meters per hour, engineered with built-in scalability to expand up to 12,600 cubic meters per hour—translating to roughly 302 million liters per day (MLD). In addition to salt separation, the contract incorporates a dedicated 3,000-cubic-meter-per-hour remineralization unit engineered to rebalance and infuse treated water with vital minerals. Emphasizing the operational significance of the contract, S. Natarajan, Vice President and Head of Sales and Marketing at VA Tech Wabag, noted that securing this mega mandate underscores Reliance Industries' sustained confidence in Wabag's proprietary technology and execution capabilities, consolidating the company's footprint across global industrial desalination markets.

Valuation Nears ₹11,200 Crore as Stock Extends 36% Year-to-Date Advance

Dalal Street rewarded the major contract win with aggressive early buying, driving the stock up by more than 5% within the first hour of trading. The counter climbed to an intraday peak of ₹1,795 on the National Stock Exchange against its previous closing price of ₹1,707, comfortably outpacing the benchmark indices. The sharp price surge propelled VA Tech Wabag’s total market capitalization close to ₹11,200 crore. The mega order win adds substantial revenue visibility to the company's robust order pipeline, extending a multi-quarter structural rally that has seen the stock gain over 36% in calendar year 2026 alone as corporate capital expenditure toward water security and environmental infrastructure continues to accelerate across India's industrial heartlands.
