Last month, an Indian-American family was the victim of racial harassment. An American woman used abusive language along with racial remarks on an Indian-American family. The case is related to the family of 50-year-old famous photographer Parvez Taufiq.

Now, the Indian-American family plans to file charges against the woman who hurled abuses at them, emphasising the need for accountability and raising voice against hate.

Learn about the case in detail

The incident took place in November when 50-year-old renowned photographer Parvez Taufiq was travelling with his wife and three children in a bus from Mexico to Los Angeles. While boarding the United Airlines shuttle bus, a fellow female passenger made racist remarks against the family.

Taufiq had posted a video on social media about the mistreatment of his family. In this video post, the woman could be seen abusing them racially, using foul language and making derogatory gestures.

The woman says that your family is from India, you have no respect. You have no rules. At the same time, it can be seen in this video that when Taufiq says that he is an American, the woman retorts using abusive language that you are not an American, you are from India.

Photographer Parvez Taufiq told the whole story

It is noteworthy that Taufiq told a news agency in an interview that our thinking is that we should take her and hold her accountable in the court of law. Unfortunately, United could not help us in any way. He said that there has been no sense of accountability or introspection on the part of the woman.

"We are going to press charges. We are seriously considering pursuing this. We have legal people who have consulted with us and told us this would be a smart move and not let this just disappear overnight," he said.

I won't keep my head bowed down

The renowned photographer said that our generation is very different from my parents' generation. I think in my parents' time, they would put their head down, keep quiet, do things like that. I think those days are over now. And I think it's up to our generation to really make sure that this is not something that you can do without consequences.

Taufiq said that he said that initially he did not have the name of the woman and this made it difficult to take any legal action against her. Now her own family and her friends have come to us, contacted us and said that we want to apologize to you. At the same time, the woman's close ones said that this is her habit and due to this half of her friends and family members do not talk to her.

woman's identity

It is noteworthy that the woman who made racist comments against the Indian-American family has been identified as Arlene Consuela. Taufiq said that his own name is like that of people of Mexican origin. In such a situation, an immigrant is telling another immigrant that he is not an American.
