Making a wrong comment on America's newly elected President Donald Trump has proved costly for ABC News. Now the channel will have to pay 15 million US dollars i.e. Rs 127.5 crore in the defamation case filed by Trump. The channel has agreed to settle the case.

In fact, this matter arose from the statements made by ABC News Network anchor George Stephanopoulos in an interview in March 2024. The anchor had claimed that Trump was found guilty of raping writer E Jean Carroll.

As part of the settlement, ABC News will also pay US$1 million to cover Trump's attorney fees and issue an apology.

ABC News will issue an apology as part of the lawsuit settlement in the form of an editor's note on the online article, writing,

"We are pleased that both parties have reached an agreement to dismiss the lawsuit on the terms of the court filing," an ABC News spokesperson said in a statement. Trump filed a defamation lawsuit in Florida federal court earlier this year, claiming Stephanopoulos and ABC News ruined his reputation.
