Lalita Jayanti is celebrated on the full moon day of Shukla Paksha of Magh month, which is also called Shodashi Jayanti. This year this Jayanti will be celebrated on Wednesday, February 12. On this day, Mata Lalita, one of the ten Mahavidyas, is worshiped, who is the third Mahavidya. It is believed that she was incarnated on this day. So let us know the story of Lalita Jayanti.
Story of Mother Lalita (Lalita Mata Ki Kahani)
According to the story, once a yagya was being performed in Naimisharanya, in which Daksha Prajapati had also arrived. Seeing him, all the gods stood up in his honor, but Lord Bholenath remained seated on his seat. Daksha considered this to be his insult. After this Prajapati Daksha organized a yagya. He invited all the gods and goddesses in this yagya, but in order to take revenge for his insult, Bholenath was not invited.
Mother Sati could not tolerate the insult
Mother Parvati also started insisting on going to that yagya. Then Lord Shiva told her that we have not received the invitation, so it will not be appropriate for us to go to the yagya. But she did not listen to Shiva and went to her father Daksha's place for the yagya. There, Daksha insulted Shiva a lot, which Mother Sati could not tolerate and she jumped into the fire pit and gave up her life.
Sati Mata's heart had fallen here
When Mahadev came to know about this, he became very angry. After reaching the yagya, he took the dead body of Maa Sati on his shoulder and started roaming around in anger. During this time, there was chaos in the whole world. In such a situation, Lord Vishnu Ji, with the help of his Chakra, cut the body of Maa Sati into pieces to calm down Lord Shiva.
Wherever the body parts of Mata Sati fell on the earth, they were enshrined in the same figures, which we know today as 51 Shakti Peethas. It is believed that the heart of Mata Sati fell in Naimisharanya, she is known as Lalita Devi.
