Himachal Pradesh Cancer Patients: There are 32 thousand 909 cancer patients and 3 thousand 138 asthma patients in Himachal Pradesh. At present, District Shimla, Kangra, Sirmaur, Mandi and Hamirpur Government Medical Colleges and Hospitals are being run under the Department of Medical Education and Research Himachal Pradesh. 

These patients are getting their treatment in these colleges and hospitals. This information was given by Health Minister Dr. Dhaniram Shandil during the monsoon session of Himachal Pradesh Assembly. In this regard, a question was asked by Indora MLA Malendra Rajan.

 

How many patients are under treatment in which hospital?


Indira Gandhi Medical College Shimla has 388 asthma patients and 11 thousand 343 cancer patients. Similarly, Dr. Rajendra Prasad Medical College Kangra has 1 thousand 190 asthma patients and 19 thousand 135 cancer patients. Yashwant Singh Parmar Government Medical College Nahan has 285 asthma patients and 1 thousand 471 cancer patients. Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri Government Medical College Mandi Nerchowk has 680 asthma patients and 424 cancer patients. 

 

Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru Government Medical College Chamba has 34 asthma patients and one cancer patient. Similarly, Dr. Radhakrishnan Government Medical College Hamirpur has 561 asthma patients and 535 cancer patients. Thus, the total number of asthma patients in Himachal Pradesh is 3 thousand 138 and the total number of cancer patients is 32 thousand 909.

 

42 medicines are included in essential medicines


Let us tell you that the Himachal Pradesh government is providing 42 medicines free of cost to cancer patients in government hospitals for their treatment. Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu had announced this during the first meeting of the State Advisory Board on Cancer and Palliative Care Program in the State Secretariat on August 5 this year. The Himachal Pradesh government has included all these 42 medicines in essential medicines. 

 

These medicines also include trastuzumab injection used for cancer treatment. Its cost is around 40 thousand rupees. A breast cancer patient needs 18 such injections in a year for treatment. To provide this injection, the state government will spend around seven lakh rupees on each patient.
