According to mythology and scriptures, when Maharishi Ved Vyas had invoked Lord Ganesha to write down the Mahabharata, before writing it, Bappa had put a condition that 'when I start writing, I will not stop the pen, if the pen stops, I will stop writing'. Ved Vyas ji accepted this. After this, Vyas ji started narrating the Mahabharata to Lord Ganesha and Gauri Putra started writing it without stopping, when after 10 days the story of Mahabharata was completed,

So Vedvyas ji saw that Bappa's body temperature had increased a lot. He made him take a dip in water to reduce his body temperature. Since then, the practice of Ganpati Visarjan has been going on till today.

Ganesh Visarjan Niyam (Ganpati Visarjan 2024 Niyam)

• Before Ganesh Visarjan, worship Lord Ganesha as per the rituals.
• After this, offer them Modaks and home made sweets.
• Chant Vedic mantras of Lord Ganesha and perform his aarti.
• After this, fill pure water in a clean vessel, if you are unable to go to a holy river or if you are unable to go to the river for some reason. Then add Gangajal, flowers, perfume, etc. to the water and chant mantras.
• Immerse them slowly in water while chanting praises of Vighnaharta.
• Then pour that water under the Peepal tree or in a pot.
• Immerse the puja materials also.
