The upcoming comedy film ‘Laila’ has found itself in the middle of a controversy just days before its release. With the movie set to hit theatres in two days, social media has erupted with calls for a boycott, leading to the trending hashtag #BoycottLaila.
The film’s lead actor, Vishwak Sen, has even issued a public apology, hoping to ease the growing backlash.
What Sparked the Controversy?
The controversy began when actor Prudhvi Raj, who plays Mekala Satti in ‘Laila’, made a politically charged statement at the film’s pre-release event.
- Prudhvi Raj mentioned "11 goats" in his speech, which many interpreted as a dig at the ruling YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) led by YS Jagan.
- This political reference did not sit well with certain groups, leading to a wave of outrage and boycott demands on social media.
Vishwak Sen’s Posters Also Fuel Controversy
Apart from Prudhvi Raj’s remarks, the controversy intensified when people linked the film’s posters to political parties.
- Vishwak Sen had shared two posters of ‘Laila’ on social media:
- A yellow-themed poster, which was associated with the TDP party (Telugu Desam Party).
- A red-themed poster, which people connected to Jana Sena Party.
Despite the allegations, Vishwak Sen clarified that the posters had no political significance and were simply designed to match the film’s theme and aesthetics.
Vishwak Sen’s Apology
In an effort to defuse the controversy, Vishwak Sen publicly apologized for Prudhvi Raj’s statement.
