Yogi Govt Hikes Minimum Wages and Dearness Allowance Across Uttar Pradesh

Delivering a significant festive welfare boost ahead of Diwali, the Uttar Pradesh government headed by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has officially rolled out upwardly revised rates for Variable Dearness Allowance (VDA) and statutory minimum wages across 74 scheduled industrial employments statewide. Under the fresh mandate, monthly remuneration across various job categories will witness a guaranteed upward revision ranging from ₹174.25 to ₹238.39, insulating the industrial workforce against inflationary pressures. Formalized through an executive notification issued by the Uttar Pradesh Labour Department on October 21, 2026, the wage revision applies retrospectively from October 1, 2026, and will remain in force through March 31, 2027. The salary adjustment is pegged to the All India Consumer Price Index (AICPI), which logged an average of 431 points between January and June 2026, compensating workers for escalations beyond the base benchmark of 400 points across factory setups, retail shops, manufacturing plants, and commercial establishments.

Three-Tier Geographic Slabs: How Wages Rise in Noida, Municipal Corporations, and Rural Districts

The updated wage structure categorizes the state into three distinct administrative and geographical brackets, ensuring equitable wage distribution across commercial hubs and emerging districts. In the high-density industrial corridors of Gautam Buddha Nagar (Noida/Greater Noida) and Ghaziabad, minimum monthly pay for unskilled laborers has risen from ₹13,690 to ₹13,883.59 (a net monthly increase of ₹193.59), semi-skilled staff will now receive ₹15,271.41 up from ₹15,059 (an increase of ₹212.41), and skilled personnel will draw ₹17,106.39 compared to ₹16,868 previously (an increase of ₹238.39). In other municipal corporation jurisdictions—including major urban clusters like Lucknow, Kanpur, Varanasi, Agra, and Prayagraj—unskilled wages have climbed from ₹13,006 to ₹13,189.68, semi-skilled wages from ₹14,306 to ₹14,507.46, and skilled wages from ₹16,025 to ₹16,250.86, translating to monthly hikes between ₹183.68 and ₹225.86. In all remaining rural and semi-urban districts across Uttar Pradesh, the floor wage has been elevated from ₹12,356 to ₹12,530.25 for unskilled hands, from ₹13,590 to ₹13,782.30 for semi-skilled hands, and from ₹15,224 to ₹15,438.42 for skilled technicians, securing an extra ₹174.25 to ₹214.42 per month for grassroots laborers.

Daily Wage Formula and Employer Directives: Strict Compliance Mandated for 74 Sectors

To maintain operational clarity across industrial payrolls, the Labor Department has stipulated that the minimum daily wage for any employee must be computed at an exact ratio of 1/26th of their total monthly entitlement. The regulatory framework explicitly embeds a wage-protection clause, ensuring that employees currently drawing higher pay packages under preexisting institutional agreements or prior wage determinations will not experience any deduction, preserving their existing financial advantages. The state administration has directed all factory owners, commercial contractors, and enterprise management bodies operating within the 74 recognized employment sectors to update their payroll systems immediately in line with the new notification. By enforcing timely wage disbursement aligned with current inflation metrics, the administration seeks to protect labor rights, enhance disposable incomes, and drive equitable economic participation among millions of working-class households throughout Uttar Pradesh.
