Uttar Pradesh Government Boosts MBBS Intern Stipend From ₹12,000 to ₹25,000 After Prolonged Agitation

The prolonged agitation and persistent demands of MBBS interns across Uttar Pradesh have finally yielded positive results, as the state government officially announced a massive hike in their monthly honorarium. For students at institutions like the Umanath Singh Autonomous Government Medical College in Siddiqpur, Jaunpur, the stipend has been more than doubled, jumping from ₹12,000 to ₹25,000 per month, bringing much-needed financial relief to medical trainees.

A Long Struggle and Continuous Protests Across Lucknow

MBBS interns had been staging protests and sit-in demonstrations for a considerable period, demanding a revision in their financial compensation to match rising living costs and the rigorous nature of their medical duties. Students organized protests on college campuses and marched in Lucknow wearing black bands to voice their grievances, initially seeking an increase to ₹30,000.

The breakthrough came when a delegation led by Dr. Kunwar Nilendra met directly with Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath roughly two months ago to outline the plight of the medical interns. Acknowledging the validity of their demands, the Chief Minister assured them of prompt action, which has now materialized into the formal government order setting the stipend at ₹25,000.

Intern Delegation Expresses Gratitude to CM Yogi Adityanath

Following the official announcement, a jubilant delegation of medical representatives—including Dr. Kunwar Nilendra, Dr. Shubham Singh, Dr. Om, and Dr. Rishit—met with Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath to express their heartfelt gratitude and appreciation. The student representatives noted that the government's decision provides immense financial stability and encouragement to young medical professionals dedicating their time to public health services across the state.
