CM Yogi to Inaugurate ₹59.44-Crore Chauri Chaura Rail Overbridge on November 1
In a major festive infrastructure upgrade for eastern Uttar Pradesh, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath will officially dedicate the newly constructed Chauri Chaura–Bhopa Bazaar rail overbridge (ROB) to the public on November 1, 2026. Constructed at an expenditure of ₹59.44 crore, the elevated corridor fulfills a long-standing demand of regional commuters and traders, permanently eliminating severe traffic bottlenecks caused by frequent railway level-crossing closures. With the inauguration ceremony confirmed after a brief rescheduling from its previous October 22 date, the Gorakhpur district administration, Uttar Pradesh State Bridge Corporation, Public Works Department (PWD), and the Chauri Chaura Municipal Council have mobilized teams on a war footing to finalize security, traffic management, and logistical arrangements across the transit corridor.
High-Profile Itinerary: Foothawainar Chopper Landing, Ribbon Cutting, and Public Address
The Chief Minister is scheduled to touch down at 10:30 AM via helicopter at a specially prepared helipad situated within Lavi Jaiswal's warehouse complex in the Foothawainar area. From the landing site, the Chief Minister’s motorcade will undertake a three-and-a-half-kilometer road journey to reach the overbridge site near the bustling Bhopa Bazaar leather market for the ceremonial ribbon-cutting ceremony. Local legislator MLA Engineer Sarwan Nishad highlighted that the infrastructure asset will directly transform everyday commuting for local residents, rural commuters, and freight carriers navigating between Gorakhpur and surrounding regional belts. Following the commissioning of the bridge, the Chief Minister will proceed to the historic Chauri Chaura Martyrs' Memorial to pay floral homage to the freedom fighters of the landmark 1922 historic revolt, culminating his hour-long tour with a keynote address to a large public gathering assembled in front of the memorial grounds.
Technical Engineering Footprint and Heritage Upgrades at the Martyrs' Memorial
Executed by the UP Bridge Corporation, the Chauri Chaura–Bhopa Bazaar Rail Overbridge measures a total length of 649.047 meters with a standard two-lane carriage width of 7.50 meters, successfully achieving completion following the launch of physical construction on December 21, 2021. Alongside the bridge commissioning, civic authorities have rolled out an aesthetic and infrastructural facelift across the adjacent heritage zone. Chauri Chaura Municipal Council President Sunny Jaiswal stated that the exterior and interior boundaries of the Martyrs' Memorial complex have been completely resurfaced and adorned with newly commissioned hand-painted portraits and biographical murals depicting the brave martyrs and key historical icons. Advanced street lighting and ambient flood illumination have also been upgraded across the monument complex, creating a secure and illuminated public space for visitors ahead of the high-level administrative visit.
