Ayodhya Action: Gram Pradhan Suspended Over Financial Irregularities, Administrator Appointed
In a decisive move to uphold transparency in rural governance, Ayodhya District Magistrate Shashank Tripathi has suspended the financial and administrative powers of the Village Head (Gram Pradhan) of Garouli, Raj Narayan. The action follows a high-level probe into alleged corruption and the misappropriation of government funds allocated for local development projects. With the Pradhan’s removal from the administrator post, the government has moved quickly to appoint the ADO Panchayat of Pura Bazaar to oversee the Gram Panchayat’s daily operations.
Investigation Uncovers Misappropriation of Funds
The administrative crackdown was triggered by a formal complaint filed by local social workers Sudhir Tiwari and Sunil Maurya. The whistleblowers alleged widespread financial misconduct regarding public works, specifically citing irregularities in drain construction and the repair of community hand pumps. A detailed investigation conducted by a panel including the DDO, PD, and RES officials confirmed the allegations. The probe found that approximately ₹69,247—comprising ₹45,007 for drain construction and ₹24,240 for hand pump maintenance—had been siphoned off, leading to the formal charges against the village head.
Three-Member Committee to Probe Further
The District Magistrate’s order emphasizes that Raj Narayan demonstrated gross negligence in his official duties and a blatant disregard for government directives. To ensure accountability, a specialized three-member committee has been constituted, consisting of the District Horticulture Officer, the District Audit Officer, and an Executive Engineer from the Rural Engineering Department. This committee has been tasked with conducting a comprehensive inquiry and is mandated to submit a final report within 15 days. This move has sent shockwaves through the district, signaling a zero-tolerance policy toward the mismanagement of public resources.
Restoring Governance in Garouli
The transition of power to the ADO Panchayat as the designated administrator aims to ensure that development works in Garouli continue without further disruption. For the residents of the village, this swift action serves as a reassurance that complaints regarding the misuse of government funds will be taken seriously. As the committee begins its deep-dive audit into the Gram Panchayat’s books, the administration remains focused on recovering the misappropriated funds and ensuring that future development initiatives are managed with strict oversight and fiscal responsibility.
