Tarang Shakti 2026: India Developing 5th-Gen Stealth Jets & Engines

Addressing global air forces at the multinational air combat exercise Tarang Shakti-2026 in Jodhpur, Rajasthan, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh announced that India is aggressively advancing the development of indigenous fifth-generation stealth fighter technology, conceptual sixth-generation combat platforms, and domestic aero-engines. Underscoring that future defense readiness cannot rely on foreign hardware pipelines, Singh emphasized that national sovereignty hinges on self-reliant military industrialization and indigenous manufacturing of critical defense assets. The Defence Minister noted that the character of modern conflict is undergoing a rapid technological transformation, where absolute combat power will no longer be measured by the sheer volume of arsenals, but by operational speed, precision targeting, information superiority, and seamless inter-service synchronization.

Stealth Superiority, Indigenous Aero-Engines, and Aerial Demonstrations at Jodhpur

Detailing India's aerospace roadmap, Singh highlighted that developing fifth-generation stealth capabilities is central to penetrating sophisticated anti-access environments, utilizing specialized low-observable radar geometries and radar-absorbent materials that drastically minimize an aircraft's radar cross-section to evade hostile surveillance networks. The high-tempo exercise at Air Force Station Jodhpur witnessed powerful aerial demonstrations of India's expanding indigenous aerospace ecosystem. The Indian Air Force's Sarang helicopter display team executed high-precision formation aerobatics, while the indigenously designed Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) Tejas demonstrated agility and advanced airborne avionics. Furthermore, the operational deployment of the Light Combat Helicopter (LCH) Prachand highlighted India's domestic rotary-wing manufacturing strength, demonstrating self-reliant high-altitude attack capabilities engineered specifically to meet the country's unique operational terrains.

Space, Cyber, and Decision Velocity: Redefining Multi-Domain Battlespaces

Highlighting the complex evolution of 21st-century warfare, Singh explained that contemporary battlefields have expanded well past traditional air, land, and maritime environments into contested domains including outer space, cyber networks, electronic warfare, the electromagnetic spectrum, and cognitive information operations. He observed that global adversaries are increasingly weaponizing maritime chokepoints and vital sea lines of communication (SLOCs) to exert coercive economic and geopolitical leverage, while long-range standoff precision munitions have widened the geographic footprint of conflict zones. Emphasizing strategic agility over static defense, the Defence Minister declared that future operational supremacy will be dictated by decision velocity—the speed at which military commanders assess real-time intelligence, synthesize high-volume battlefield data, finalize tactical directives, and execute countermeasures before adversaries can react.
