In a startling incident of road violence in Northeast India, prominent Sikkimese hip-hop artist Ugen Namgyal Bhutia, widely known by his stage name UNB, was violently ambushed and injured by a group of unidentified youths in Arunachal Pradesh's Lower Dibang Valley district. The artist was traveling back after headlining an event when armed assailants intercepted his vehicle along a remote mountain stretch, triggering immediate security interventions across two state administrations.

Ambush on Remote Highway After Anini Concert

The violent encounter unfolded around 6:00 PM near Tiyari village while UNB and his touring crew were traveling toward Roing following a live concert at a cultural festival in Anini. According to details shared by the musician's manager, Deep Dhar, their convoy was tailed for nearly an hour across winding terrain by two vehicles—a Toyota Innova and a Mahindra Bolero. Both vehicles displayed Assam registration markers that had been deliberately obscured with mud to conceal their identities.

Brutal Assault with Iron Rods on Isolated Stretch

The pursuers eventually cornered the artist's car on a desolate road section, blocking further passage. An estimated mob of eight to ten men stepped out armed with heavy iron rods, proceeding to smash the windshield and car body before physically assaulting UNB and his manager. The rapper sustained severe blunt-force trauma to his head and face, along with acute swelling around his eye. The assailants abruptly fled into the surrounding hills only after sighting an approaching commercial truck along the highway.

Investigating officers in Arunachal Pradesh are examining multiple motives behind the targeted violence, focusing closely on an escalating online confrontation. Preliminary reports and statements link the tension to an ongoing digital spat between UNB and an Arunachal-based rapper identified as Don Kam. Detectives are verifying whether virtual hostility and local hip-hop rivalries directly spilled over into the planned road ambush.

Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang reached out to Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu to voice deep concern regarding the artist's security and medical care.
