The controversy erupted following an incident early Sunday morning at Relief Hospital in Palghar, triggered by a dispute over the discharge formalities of a patient injured during Dahi Handi festival celebrations. According to formal police complaints lodged by hospital staff, Shiv Sena district chief Kundan Sankhe, city chief Rahul Gharat, and a group of supporters forced their way into the emergency ward and aggressively confronted duty doctors. The situation escalated rapidly as several individuals forcibly breached the intensive care unit (ICU). Chilling CCTV footage later surfaced showing members of the mob slapping a receptionist who attempted to intervene and hurling intimidatory threats at female healthcare workers. In response to the uproar, Palghar police registered a First Information Report (FIR) against at least 17 individuals connected to the ruling faction.
