No Nameplate, No Chair: Sonia Gandhi’s Surprise Entry at INDIA Bloc Meet
A major strategy meeting of the opposition INDIA bloc in New Delhi witnessed an unexpected moment on Wednesday when Congress Parliamentary Party Chairperson Sonia Gandhi made an unannounced entry. The high-level gathering brought together prominent leaders from across the country to discuss collective political strategies and protest against Central Government policies. Prior to the press conference, stage arrangements and nameplates had been set according to standard protocol, prioritizing party heads, sitting chief ministers, and parliamentary strength. However, the sudden arrival of the veteran Congress leader caught organizers by surprise, creating a brief stir inside the hall.
Organizers Scramble as Mamata Banerjee and Supriya Sule Find Seating
Because Sonia Gandhi’s attendance had not been scheduled, organizers had not placed a nameplate or an assigned chair for her on the main dais. As she walked into the room, Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee and NCP (Sharadchandra Pawar) leader Supriya Sule immediately stepped in to help arrange a seat. While several attendees requested that she take Rahul Gandhi’s chair, Sonia Gandhi chose to sit in the seat designated for Rashtriya Janata Dal leader Tejashwi Yadav. Shortly afterward, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge arrived, promptly requested an additional chair placed directly next to him, and helped finalize the dais arrangement alongside Mamata Banerjee, Supriya Sule, and Samajwadi Party MP Harendra Malik.
Final Seating Alignment of Alliance Heavyweights on the Dais
The spontaneous adjustments quickly settled into a united display of top opposition leadership before the media. Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge occupied the center seat at the press table. On one side of Kharge sat Rahul Gandhi, alongside National Conference leader Omar Abdullah, CPI(M) leader M.A. Baby, CPI(ML) General Secretary Dipankar Bhattacharya, RJD's Tejashwi Yadav, and Rajya Sabha MP Kapil Sibal. On the other side of Kharge, Sonia Gandhi and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee were seated prominently, flanked by Supriya Sule and Harendra Malik, while a front-row seat reserved for senior Congress leader P. Chidambaram remained vacant due to his absence.
