CM Shubhendu Announces ₹5 Lakh Insurance for All Uncovered Families

In a major push to expand social security coverage across West Bengal, Chief Minister Shubhendu Adhikari has unveiled a transformative health insurance initiative. Addressing a massive public gathering in the Rejinagar constituency of Murshidabad district on Friday, the Chief Minister confirmed that the state is launching a dedicated health cover to bridge the gap for those currently excluded from central schemes.

₹5 Lakh Cover for Every Deprived Household

The Chief Minister announced that while the Ayushman Bharat Yojana is currently in the process of covering approximately 6.5 crore residents in the state, his government will ensure that no citizen is left behind. Under the newly bolstered 'Chief Minister’s Health Insurance Scheme', families ineligible for the Ayushman Bharat scheme will receive comprehensive health insurance coverage of up to ₹5 lakh. Furthermore, the state government is actively finalizing arrangements to ensure that this insurance cover remains valid and accessible even when patients seek medical treatment in hospitals across other states, ensuring seamless care for the people of Bengal.

Rejinagar Development Pledge: A New Political Milestone

Beyond healthcare, the Rejinagar rally served as a platform for the Chief Minister to lay out his vision for the upcoming by-elections. Setting an ambitious target to take the BJP’s legislative strength to 209 MLAs, he described the Rejinagar result as a "decisive" factor for the state’s political landscape. Reaching out to the Muslim-majority constituency, Shubhendu drew parallels to the successful development model implemented in Phalta (South 24 Parganas). He pledged that if the BJP secures victory in Rejinagar, the area will see a massive influx of infrastructure projects, including the construction of two major new bridges.

Focus on Employment and Infrastructure

The Chief Minister's roadmap for Rejinagar also emphasizes job creation and grassroots welfare. He promised to prioritize the 'Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana' for the needy and committed to a proactive strategy to bring migrant workers back to the region by facilitating local employment opportunities. "Just as we fulfilled our development promises elsewhere, we ask the people of Rejinagar to place their trust in our vision," the Chief Minister stated. With the administration vowing to leave "no stone unturned" in development works, the focus is now on delivering visible results that resonate with the local electorate ahead of the crucial by-polls.
