High-voltage political tension gripped the national capital on Saturday, October 10, ahead of a planned agitation by the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) against Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar. The confrontation escalated rapidly after Delhi Police intercepted and detained CJP founder Abhijit Dipke, alongside associates Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka, immediately upon their arrival at the Indira Gandhi International Airport. Anticipating preventive action by law enforcement authorities, Dipke released a pre-recorded broadcast outlining the group's leadership transition and declaring that their demonstration will continue despite leadership detentions.

Anticipating potential custody prior to reaching the protest grounds, Dipke recorded an address on Friday night that was broadcast across official party channels on Saturday afternoon. In the clip, Dipke announced that organizational in-charge Ajinkya Shinde has been entrusted with the direct command of the ongoing movement and will spearhead the agitation at Jantar Mantar while Dipke, Das, and Ranka remain in custody. Taking sharp political aim at the central government, Dipke alleged that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah were using state administrative machinery and blanket security restrictions to suppress the mobilization.

Capital Turns Fortress: Over 1,500 Detained Amid Tight Restrictions

Central Delhi was effectively turned into a high-security zone on Saturday morning after police authorities formally denied permission for the gathering, citing severe public order concerns. Enforcement teams moved to maintain law and order across border checkpoints and central arteries, detaining roughly 1,500 demonstrators under Section 65 of the Delhi Police Act. Beginning at 6:00 AM, traffic diversions, rigorous vehicular checks, and extensive multi-layered barricades were enforced around Connaught Place, Parliament Street, and the immediate approaches to Jantar Mantar to prevent unpermitted mass assemblies.
