As Mumbai gears up for the vibrant Janmashtami celebrations and the high-energy Dahi Handi festival on Saturday, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has stepped up public health measures to handle potential emergencies. With enthusiastic groups of Govindas set to compete across neighborhoods by forming complex, multi-tiered human pyramids to shatter suspended curd-filled earthen pots, the risk of accidental falls and physical injuries remains significantly high. To safeguard participants, municipal authorities have officially designated and kept over 100 dedicated hospital beds fully prepared across various civic healthcare institutions to provide immediate and unhindered medical assistance to anyone injured during the traditional festivities.
Free Medical Care Provided Across 16 Suburban Facilities And Major Mumbai Medical Centers
Under the direct directives issued by Additional Municipal Commissioner (City) Prajakta Verma Lavangare, deans, chief medical superintendents, and medical superintendents of all civic-run hospitals have been instructed to ensure foolproof preparedness and seamless emergency response coordination. According to the official civic statement, injured Govindas will receive completely free-of-cost medical treatment and specialized care. The designated medical capacity spans 16 prominent suburban municipal hospitals alongside Mumbai's major tertiary care centers, including the Lokmanya Tilak Municipal General Hospital in Sion, KEM Hospital in Parel, and Nair Hospital in Mumbai Central, ensuring that advanced trauma and orthopedic care remain easily accessible throughout the metropolis during the celebrations.
