IAF Inducts HAL’s Indigenous Tejas & HTT-40 'Ankur' Trainers
In a landmark advancement reinforcing India's domestic defense manufacturing ecosystem, state-run aerospace giant Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) officially handed over the twin-seater Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) Tejas trainer and the indigenously engineered HTT-40 basic trainer aircraft to the Indian Air Force (IAF). The high-profile induction ceremony, conducted at HAL’s aerospace facilities in Bengaluru, was attended by Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu. Marking a major stride toward indigenization, the operational delivery comprised two LCA Final Operational Clearance (FOC) trainer aircraft alongside the inaugural unit of the Hindustan Turbo Trainer-40, named "Ankur," formally commencing deliveries under the landmark procurement contract for 70 indigenous trainer aircraft.

Beyond military fixed-wing aircraft inductions, the formal handover event extended vital capacity expansions to India’s civil aviation sector. HAL delivered four indigenous Dhruv Next Generation (NG) helicopters to national transport carrier Pawan Hans Limited, bolstering civilian offshore operations, regional connectivity, and emergency disaster relief capabilities. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, alongside senior defense dignitaries, conducted a close inspection of the advanced 5.5-tonne twin-engine multi-role rotorcraft platform, commending HAL and domestic supply chain partners for transforming India into an integrated aerospace design and manufacturing hub capable of serving both tactical combat formations and civilian transport infrastructure.

Addressing queries regarding fighter jet production timelines, HAL Chairman and Managing Director Ravi Kumar clarified that while certain delivery milestones for the Tejas LCA Mk1 variants faced temporary deferrals due to complex software integration protocols, active engineering efforts are rapidly resolving the challenges to ensure accelerated handovers. Following the defense inductions in Karnataka, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh traveled to Kochi, Kerala, to inaugurate the national seminar 'One Epic, Many Stories: Rama Katha Across India and Beyond,' hosted by Malayalam daily Janmabhoomi. In his address, the minister underscored that while sovereign political liberation was secured in 1947, completing India’s civilizational and cultural renaissance requires educating the younger generation about indigenous heritage and dismantling lingering colonial biases that once disparaged native traditions.
