Bengal Govt Rewards Election Duty Police With Rs 10,000 Honorarium And Rs 62.5 Crore Allocation
Demonstrating a strong commitment to administrative welfare, the state government in West Bengal has announced a landmark financial incentive for thousands of police personnel who performed rigorous election duties during the recent state assembly elections. The administration has officially sanctioned a substantial allocation of ₹62.56 crore (specifically Rs 62,55,90,650) to reward law enforcement officers for their tireless service, long hours, and commitment to maintaining public order during the high-stakes electoral process.
According to the official notification issued by the state's Home and Mountain Affairs Department, a total of 32,129 police personnel who were deployed on strenuous election duties outside their regular workplaces will receive a direct honorarium of Rs 10,000 each. This comprehensive financial package covers a wide spectrum of field deployments, including sector officers, naka checkpost personnel, Quick Response Teams (QRT), flying squads, and Static Surveillance Teams (SST), ensuring that grassroots personnel who bore the brunt of election management are appropriately recognized.
Comprehensive Coverage Ranging From Constables To Senior IPS Officers
The welfare scheme is structured inclusively to cover not just field operatives but also specialized personnel managing critical administrative back-ends. In addition to frontline patrol units, 2,956 police personnel deployed across various dedicated election cells will receive the Rs 10,000 flat honorarium. Furthermore, the administrative framework extends upward through the ranks, encompassing senior leadership from the Director General of Police (DGP) and Inspector General of Police (IG) down to Police Commissioners, Deputy Inspectors General (DIG), Superintendents of Police (SP), and Additional Superintendents of Police.
The detailed disbursement plan also accounts for supervisory and middle-tier management, allocating designated funds for 300 officers at the rank of Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO), and Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), alongside 416 officers at the Inspector level. Administrative records further confirm that 233 station house officers, 63 reserve and motor transport officers, and 151 auxiliary support personnel engaged in election management are included within the payout structure.
Tiered Honorariums For Extended Duties Across Districts And Sub-Divisions
Recognizing the additional hardships faced by officers deployed far away from their home stations for extended durations, the state administration has formulated a specialized tiered honorarium structure. For police personnel performing election duties outside their primary home districts or sub-divisions, additional compensation has been standardized based on rank and duration.
Under this supplementary provision, DSP-level officers deployed for up to 15 days will receive Rs 4,000, while Inspectors, Sub-Inspectors, and Assistant Sub-Inspectors are allocated Rs 3,000. Constables, women constables, and home guards will receive Rs 2,500 for the initial 15-day window. Crucially, for deployments exceeding the 15-day threshold, provisions have been established to disburse proportional additional honorariums for every extra week worked, ensuring fair and transparent compensation across all operational tiers.
