15,000 MCD Contract Employees: Guaranteed Job Until Age 60 and Salary Hike on the Cards
In a landmark decision that promises to eliminate years of employment uncertainty, contract employees working with the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) are set to receive guaranteed job security until the age of 60. Spearheaded by Mayor Pravesh Vahi, this transformative initiative aims to protect thousands of direct contract workers spanning Groups A through C from termination starting from the upcoming financial year. By acknowledging their long-standing dedication and service, the administration is moving forward to ensure that these workers can serve with dignity and financial stability right up to their retirement age.
Implementing 'Equal Pay for Equal Work' and Action Plan Directives
Under the proposed framework, eligible contract personnel are set to receive significant financial uplifts, transitioning from basic minimum wage payments to receiving entry-level pay, dearness allowances, leaves, and welfare benefits matching regular employees under the principle of "equal pay for equal work." Mayor Pravesh Vahi has formally written to Municipal Commissioner Sanjeev Khirwar, directing the administration to formulate a comprehensive 15-day action plan. The directive emphasizes identifying qualified employees working against sanctioned positions, avoiding illegal appointments, and strictly adhering to Supreme Court directives, constitutional provisions, and successful precedents established by entities like the Haryana government and NDMC.
Benefitting 15,000 Employees Across Departments with Supernumerary Provisions
The historic relief initiative is projected to directly transform the lives of at least 15,000 contract workers across the capital, encompassing approximately 3,500 DBC employees, 3,000 contract teachers, and numerous others serving in Group A, Group B, and MTS roles across various municipal departments. To address instances where regular vacancies might be unavailable, the mayor's proposal suggests examining legal and financial feasibility for creating supernumerary positions or offering one-time regularization. This proactive administrative push ensures that dedicated workers who crossed regular government age limits while serving the corporation will finally receive the security and recognition they deserve.
