News Topical, Digital Desk : A 61-year-old man in America died a painful death when he entered the MRI room during scanning. This man was wearing a thick metal chain around his neck, due to which the machine pulled him inwards. The man died due to serious injuries.
According to the Nassau County Police Department, the incident took place in a medical building in Westbury, New York. Police said in a statement that the man entered the MRI room during scanning. Police said, "The victim was wearing a thick metal chain around his neck, due to which he got caught in the machine." The man was identified as Keith McAllister.
Why did the MRI machine become the cause of death?
In fact, MRI machines use a strong magnetic field to create detailed images. Before scanning, patients are advised to enter the MRI room only after removing jewelry or any metal object. The US National Institute of Biomedical Imaging and Bioengineering warned that MRI machines have powerful magnets, which rapidly pull any metal object towards them, including wheelchairs and oxygen tanks.
What is an MRI?
MRI stands for Magnetic Resonance Imaging Scan. It creates detailed images of the internal organs and tissues of the body. For this, the MRI machine uses strong magnetic fields and radio waves. Scanning can usually take 15 to 90 minutes. It depends on which part of the body is to be scanned and how many pictures are to be taken.
