Indo-Russian Rifles Private Limited (IRRPL) has said that about 7,000 rifles will be delivered in the next two to three weeks. The special thing is that these rifles are being manufactured in Amethi, Uttar Pradesh under Atmanirbhar Bharat. The production of completely indigenous rifles is likely to start here from December 2025.
According to officials, this timely supply of rifles is another important achievement in India's defense manufacturing sector. The rifles are being produced at the IRRPL plant in Amethi, Uttar Pradesh. In the coming years, the AK-203 will become the main assault rifle of the Indian Army. There is a plan to give more than 6 lakh AK-203 assault rifles to the Indian Army within 10 years. These rifles are being manufactured under a joint venture between India and Russia.

According to IRRPL officials, the production of the assault rifle is completely on track. The production of the completely indigenous version of this rifle can start by the end of this year. The production of the completely indigenous version of this rifle will start from December 31. After this, this rifle will be known as Sher. According to the report, the Indian Army is going to get a huge order of more than 6 lakh AK-203 assault rifles by December 2030. Although its deadline is December 2032, but IRRPL can give the entire order 22 months in advance.
Features of AK-203 rifle
The AK-203 rifle is a modern version of the Kalashnikov rifle. It has better accuracy, better ergonomics and great adaptability. It is suitable for high-altitude areas and counter-terrorism operations. It has a range of up to 800 meters and is capable of firing 700 rounds in a minute. India signed a Rs 5,000 crore deal with Russia in July 2021 for the licensed production of these rifles, which also included complete transfer of technology.
