Yogi Government's Major Gift: Women Above 60 To Get 'Lifetime Free' Travel On UP Roadways Buses
The Yogi Adityanath government in Uttar Pradesh is rolling out a landmark welfare initiative aimed at empowering and assisting senior citizens. In a major announcement, UP Transport Minister Dayashankar Singh revealed that women aged 60 and above will soon be granted the privilege of traveling completely free of charge for life on all Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (UPSRTC) buses. With budgetary provisions already approved, the scheme is set to bring immense relief and mobility to lakhs of elderly women across the state.
Announcement Made During Raksha Bandhan Gathering In Ballia
Transport Minister Dayashankar Singh made the significant announcement on Sunday while attending a Raksha Bandhan celebration event at a hotel in Tikhampur, Ballia. During the gathering, where local women tied rakhis on his wrist, the minister shared the upcoming policy update. He confirmed that the legislative framework has already cleared the proposal, and the first supplementary budget for 2026–27 incorporates the necessary financial provisions to bring the scheme to life.
₹100 Crore Budget Allocated To Fund The Scheme
To ensure the seamless implementation of free lifetime travel for elderly women, the state government has allocated a dedicated budget provision of ₹100 crore through the Road Transport Corporation to compensate UPSRTC for ticket fares. A formal cabinet meeting has been scheduled to grant final approval, following which Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath is expected to officially roll out the scheme.
Highlighting the administration's core philosophy, Minister Dayashankar Singh emphasized that the Yogi government is continuously spearheading initiatives centered on women's safety, dignity, and self-reliance. This new travel exemption will make it significantly easier for senior women to commute for family visits, religious pilgrimages, social gatherings, and medical check-ups without financial constraints.
