Tata Power Joins Hands with State Mission to Transform Rural Women Entrepreneurs

In a major push toward rural economic empowerment, the Uttar Pradesh government has inked a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Tata Power Community Development Trust. This strategic partnership between the Uttar Pradesh State Rural Livelihoods Mission (UPSRLM) and Tata Power is set to provide a massive boost to the 'Lakhpati Mahila' campaign, aiming to transform rural women associated with Self-Help Groups (SHGs) into successful, self-reliant entrepreneurs.

Bridging the Gap: Modern Technology and Market Access

Signed at the State Mission Office in Lucknow, this initiative moves beyond traditional livelihood models. The collaboration focuses heavily on institutional capacity building, ensuring that women-led rural enterprises are technically empowered. Instead of staying confined to conventional roles, women will now receive specialized training in modern technologies, advanced entrepreneurial skills, and strategies for accessing high-value markets. The objective is to provide a comprehensive ecosystem where rural products not only find local demand but reach wider commercial networks.

From Millet Cafes to Agro-Processing Powerhouses

A core highlight of this partnership is the establishment of women-led rural enterprises directly at the village level. Plans are already in motion to roll out a series of Millet Cafes and localized agro-processing units across Uttar Pradesh. By processing raw agricultural produce closer to the source, these units will create sustainable, local employment opportunities. This grassroots industrialization is expected to drastically increase the monthly income of rural households, significantly accelerating the state’s progress toward achieving its goal of creating a 'Lakhpati' (millionaire) class of women entrepreneurs.

Empowering the Rural Economy: A Shared Vision

Mission Director of UPSRLM, Deepa Ranjan, emphasized that this collaboration is a milestone for women's entrepreneurship in the state. "Our goal is to ensure that every rural woman has the tools to stand on her own feet. This partnership will provide a modern, scalable direction to our existing efforts, ensuring we reach our income targets ahead of schedule," she stated. Echoing this sentiment, Himal Tiwari, Chairman and Chief Human Resources, CSR & Sustainability Officer at Tata Power Community Development Trust, highlighted the long-term impact of the project. He noted that by providing a robust market platform for local goods, the partnership would create a sustainable, resilient rural economy that benefits the entire community.
