In a decisive move to permanently eradicate the long-standing water scarcity in the arid Bundelkhand region while dramatically boosting agrarian incomes, the Uttar Pradesh government under Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath is aggressively advancing the "India-Israel Bundelkhand Water Project." Spearheaded by the Namami Gange and Rural Water Supply Department, a comprehensive mini pilot project is currently taking shape in Gangawali village within Jhansi's Baragaon development block, backed by an investment of Rs 19.1 crore. Designed around advanced Israeli agricultural methodologies, the initiative aims to optimize water resource management, enabling farmers to transition toward modern, high-yield farming practices even under limited water availability.

Integrating Solar Energy, Micro-Irrigation, and Natural STP Conservation

The pilot project in Gangavali serves as an integrated model combining water conservation, clean solar energy, and state-of-the-art micro-irrigation infrastructure. Substantial project milestones have already been achieved, including extensive reservoir earthworks, geomembrane lining, the installation of high-capacity solar pumps, and the laying of intake pipes connecting nearby canals to the reservoir. To maintain absolute ecological hygiene, a dedicated "Natural STP" has been constructed to filter and treat village wastewater before it can enter the reservoir. Furthermore, modern infrastructure featuring PUF panel-based structures and comprehensive CCTV security systems has been successfully deployed.

8.5-Hectare Live Demonstration Site Featuring SCADA Automation and Greenhouses

Moving into its next phase, the initiative will feature an 8.5-hectare live demonstration farm dedicated to advanced agricultural techniques. This showcase will deploy automated drip and sprinkler micro-irrigation networks, protected greenhouse cultivation, and SCADA-based irrigation automation. These technologies are engineered to educate growers on precision agriculture—delivering exact amounts of water and nutrients directly to crop roots to secure maximum yields with minimal resource wastage.

Comprehensive Practical Training for Farmers and Expansion Across 24 Downstream Villages

Beyond physical infrastructure, the project prioritizes human capital by equipping local farmers with technical expertise through 72 hands-on training sessions, each accommodating approximately 100 participants. These workshops will cover critical aspects of modern farming, including water budgeting, strategic crop planning, fertigation, and mechanized agriculture. Following the successful completion of construction milestones slated for December 31, 2026—with operation and maintenance modes running through June 2029—this pioneering Gangavali model is scheduled for rapid replication across 24 additional villages situated downstream of the Pahuj Canal.
