Big Relief for Kanpur Teachers: Rs 5 Lakh Cashless Medical Cover & Insurance Launched

In a significant boost to the welfare of the teaching community, the Uttar Pradesh government has officially rolled out the Chief Minister Teacher Cashless Medical Scheme in Kanpur. This landmark initiative aims to provide robust financial and medical security to thousands of educators and staff members, ensuring that quality healthcare is accessible without the burden of out-of-pocket expenses. The program was inaugurated at a district-level function held at the Merchants Chamber, Civil Lines, with Cabinet Minister Rakesh Sachan presiding as the chief guest.

Who Benefits? Over 11,000 Staff Covered

The scale of this welfare project is substantial, covering a total of 11,484 beneficiaries across the district. The scheme is designed to support not only the primary employees but also their dependents, offering cashless medical treatment up to ₹5 lakh. The beneficiaries include:

• 5,936 Teachers

• 1,968 Shiksha Mitras

• 122 Instructors

• 20 Special Educators (CWSN)

• 3,438 Cooks

Beyond Medical Care: Comprehensive Insurance Benefits

In addition to the medical coverage, the Education Department has signed a strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the State Bank of India (SBI). Under this partnership, teachers will receive personal insurance coverage ranging from ₹30 lakh to ₹80 lakh, free of any additional cost. This provides a vital safety net for families, covering essential needs such as children’s education and marriage expenses in the unfortunate event of an accidental loss of life.

How to Access the Scheme

To avail of these benefits, eligible personnel are required to register their details and the details of their dependents on a dedicated government portal. Once the information is submitted, the application will undergo verification and e-KYC processes at the office of the Block Education Officer and the District Basic Education Officer. After successful validation, the cashless medical card will be generated, allowing teachers to access empanelled hospital services seamlessly.

The Kanpur event featured a live telecast of the state-level inauguration held in Varanasi, chaired by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. Local dignitaries, including MP Ramesh Awasthi and MLAs Neelima Katiyar and Mahesh Trivedi, participated in the symbolic distribution of medical cards to teachers from both Basic and Secondary Education departments. With simultaneous distributions held in Bilhaur, Ghatampur, and Narwal tehsils, the government has signaled its firm commitment to the physical and financial well-being of those shaping the future of Uttar Pradesh.
