Domestic Rates Held Steady as New 25-Day Booking and OTP Delivery Rules Take Effect
State-owned oil marketing companies (OMCs) have kept retail prices for 14.2 kg domestic liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) cylinders unchanged on Saturday, September 19, 2026, offering continued price stability to households across the country. Following the monthly revision implemented on September 1—which primarily adjusted the tariff schedule for 19 kg commercial units—domestic cooking gas rates have remained steady across all major metropolitan consumer hubs. Consumers in the national capital, Delhi, continue to pay ₹942 per 14.2 kg cylinder, while retail points in Mumbai record ₹941.50, Kolkata stands at ₹968, and Chennai registers ₹957.50, maintaining the price levels established following the combined ₹87 hike executed earlier across the March and June review cycles.
Uniform 25-Day Refill Cap Established Across Urban and Rural Belts
Addressing supply-chain management amid broader geopolitical volatility, the central government has revised the mandatory interval regulations governing cylinder refilling cycles. Under previously enforced guidelines, booking intervals were bifurcated, restricting urban consumers to a 25-day gap and rural consumers to a 45-day wait between successive bookings. The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas has now harmonized this framework, establishing a uniform 25-day booking window across both urban and rural distributor networks, ensuring rural households receive equitable access to regular energy refills without extended wait times.
Commercial 19 kg Cylinder Tariffs Hold Firm After September Rebound
In the commercial cooking gas segment, tariffs have held flat through mid-September after recovering from consecutive price cuts totaling nearly ₹400 across July and August. The 19 kg commercial cylinder is currently priced at ₹2,747 in Delhi, ₹2,701 in Mumbai, ₹2,884 in Kolkata, and ₹2,916.50 in Chennai. Regional pricing across major business centers sees commercial units retail at ₹2,747.50 in Noida, ₹2,764.50 in Gurugram, ₹2,832 in Bengaluru, ₹2,870 in Lucknow, ₹2,776 in Jaipur, ₹2,769.50 in Chandigarh, ₹2,919 in Bhubaneswar, ₹2,996 in Hyderabad, ₹2,784 in Thiruvananthapuram, and ₹3,029 in Patna. Alongside the pricing structure, enforcement authorities have mandated strict delivery validation, requiring customers to initiate bookings strictly via registered mobile numbers and share a mandatory Delivery Authentication Code (OTP) upon physical drop-off to eliminate diversion.
