Salman Khan's War Drama Maatrubhoomi Gets Govt Nod, Eyes Nov 13 Release
Following an extended period of regulatory scrutiny and multiple release postponements, Bollywood superstar Salman Khan’s high-profile patriotic war drama Maatrubhoomi has officially received the green signal from the central government. According to an industry report by Bollywood Hungama, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (I&B) issued a formal No Objection Certificate (NOC) last week after reviewing and approving an updated version of the feature film. Originally announced under the working title Battle of Galwan and renamed earlier this year, the patriotic project had been stalled over clearance procedures with defense and external affairs authorities.
The Diplomatic Hurdle: Resolving Ministry of Defence Concerns Over Galwan Portrayal
The movie, helmed by director Apoorva Lakhia, depicts the intense 2020 cross-border physical skirmishes between Indian Army soldiers and Chinese PLA troops in Eastern Ladakh’s Galwan Valley. The project encountered significant delays after the Ministry of Defence flagged reservations regarding specific narrative depictions and dialogue references to China, especially given ongoing high-level diplomatic efforts between New Delhi and Beijing to stabilize bilateral relations and disengage border points. In response, the filmmakers executed necessary creative revisions and modifications, presenting a recalibrated cut that highlights soldierly valor while aligning with geopolitical sensitivities. Satisfied with the revised cut, the I&B Ministry granted its official release nod.
Next Stop CBFC: Salman Khan Targets November 13 Theatrical Launch
With government clearance in hand, the production banner is moving to submit Maatrubhoomi to the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) for formal censor clearance and age ratings. Trade insiders reveal that if the censor board completes its review process without requiring additional cuts this month, Salman Khan has already zeroed in on November 13, 2026, as the confirmed theatrical release date. Starring Chitrangada Singh in a prominent lead role opposite Khan, the big-canvas production is set to deliver an emotionally charged tribute to military sacrifice, bringing one of modern India's most tense border conflicts to the silver screen.
