Ranveer Singh had rejected the film
According to Sandeep Reddy Vanga, it was his idea to take Ranveer Singh for the role of Kabir Singh. But the actor was not interested. "People in Mumbai kept calling to make the film an adaptation. When I was getting calls for making Arjun Reddy a remake, I had Ranveer Singh in my mind," Vanga told iDream Media.

But Ranveer Singh refused. Vanga also said: "He just flat out refused to do the film. It was a little too dark for his comfort level at that point in his life."

Shahid Kapoor was cast

Prior to Ranveer Singh, the makers reportedly approached Arjun Kapoor to play Kabir. However, it was Shahid Kapoor whom director Sandeep Reddy chose to be their first choice for the role. When Shahid took the role of Kabir Singh, everyone doubted his ability because his solo films had not been able to cross the 100 crore milestone.

Nevertheless, Kabir Singh was a sensation and did records in the box office. Reports say the film crossed a total of 379 crore in terms of Worldwide Box Office, against a total of 60 crore that the film produced.
