News Topical, Digital Desk : Two-time Oscar winner AR Rahman is currently in the news for his statements. He called Chhava a divisive film and also said that he's not getting work due to communal reasons.

Amidst these controversies, a claim has now emerged that AR Rahman refused to sing the song Vande Mataram. In a post on her account, the journalist stated that she was deeply saddened by the singer's comments. She recalled that during an interview, she tried to persuade Rahman for half an hour to sing "Maa Tujhe Salaam," but he refused.

Chinmayi came out in support of AR Rahman

Now, following this claim, singer Chinmayi has supported AR Rahman. Resharing the post, she wrote on Instagram, “AR Rahman and we all sang Vande Mataram with the crowd at the RK Laxman Memorial Award Concert in Pune on November 23, 2025. He sings Maa Tujhe Salaam at almost every concert. Anyone who has attended those concerts knows this. He may have felt his voice wasn't at its best that day, or he wasn't in the mood to sing when you interviewed him, and that's okay. The 'Oh, that makes sense' replies below this tweet show what has gone wrong recently.”

Priyanka compared to AR Rahman

Bollywood actress Meera Chopra has also supported AR Rahman, responding to trolls by comparing the singer to her cousin and actress Priyanka Chopra . She wrote on her Instagram handle, "Only two Indians have truly elevated India to a global stage in a way that the entire world recognizes them: Priyanka Chopra and AR Rahman."

Meera further said, "Trolling him for something he didn't even mean is not only wrong but also shameful. Respect this legend. He has composed the most iconic music."
