Meesho Block Deal: Institutional Giants Buy In as RPS WOS II Offloads ₹1,517-Crore Stake
Indian e-commerce major Meesho witnessed heavy institutional activity on Wednesday, September 23, as massive equity blocks worth approximately ₹1,517 crore traded on the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE). The marquee transaction was anchored on the selling side by foreign investor RPS WOS II, which offloaded around 3.86 crore equity shares—constituting an approximate 0.84 percent stake in the Bengaluru-headquartered e-retailer—at an average execution price of ₹233 per share.
Sovereign Wealth and Global Funds Absorb Supply
The block window drew significant absorption from marquee international sovereign entities and top-tier domestic asset managers. The Government of Singapore emerged as a key buyer on the bourses, picking up 1.32 crore shares representing a 0.29 percent equity stake for roughly ₹307.5 crore. Domestic mutual fund heavyweight Mirae Asset Mutual Fund also expanded its position by securing 7.72 million shares (0.17 percent stake) valued at ₹179.9 crore.
Global investment banking institutions participated actively in absorbing the remaining secondary offer. French multinational lender Societe Generale acquired 3.55 million shares, or an 0.08 percent holding, for ₹82.7 crore. Simultaneously, BNP Paribas Arbitrage picked up 2.05 million equity shares, representing an 0.04 percent ownership slice, with an outlay of ₹47.8 crore (₹478 million).
Intraday Volatility and Closing Price Action
Following the block deal execution, Meesho's equity shares settled lower on the BSE, ending the trading session at ₹236.35—a decline of ₹3.85 or 1.60 percent against the previous close of ₹240.20. During the volatile trading hours, the counter fluctuated across a wide intraday corridor, climbing to a high of ₹244.20 before touching an intraday trough of ₹230.80.
Trading volumes expanded sharply across the counter, with an aggregate of 40.4 million shares exchanging hands on the exchange, translating into an overall turnover of approximately ₹942.57 crore. The digital commerce player, a component of the BSE 200 index, currently holds a market capitalization of roughly ₹1.09 lakh crore, trading between a 52-week peak of ₹254.65 and a 52-week low of ₹125.70.
