Why are they talking about another DA increase?

The central government revises the dearness allowance twice in a year (effective from January and July). Its main purpose is to provide relief to employees and pensioners from the rise in inflation. This whole calculation is as per the Consumer Price Index for Industrial Workers (CPI-IW), or retail inflation data. Since there is no announcement on the 8th Pay Commission, the employees would now be given DA increases as per the rules of the 7th Pay Commission.

What are the latest numbers on inflation?

Preliminary data for May 2026 clearly indicate that inflation was present in many commodities in the market. Total consumer inflation rose to 3.93% in May from 3.48% in April. Rural inflation rose from 3.74% to 4.25% and urban inflation from 3.16% to 3.53%. Food inflation, too, accelerated to 4.78% in May from 4.20% in April.

Is DA raising interest rates?

While the final calculation of DA depends on CPI-IW, the latest inflation data shows steep rise in DA Next scheduled revision: July 2026. According to experts, given the inflation trend, there is a possibility of a 2 to 3 percent increase this time around. But the final decision will be clear only after Cabinet approval.

How much DA you get now?

The government had increased the dearness allowance by 2% in April, 2026 that was effective from January 1, 2026. After this decision, the DA of central employees and DR (Dearness Relief) of pensioners have been raised to 60% of their basic pay from the existing rate of 58%.
