In view of the recent attacks and law and order situation in Manipur, the Center has sent 20 additional CAPF companies comprising about 2,000 personnel to the state. The Home Ministry on Tuesday night issued orders for airlifting these units and their immediate deployment.

 

10 militants killed in the encounter

It is noteworthy that on Monday, 10 militants were killed in a fierce encounter with the CRPF. This encounter took place when militants dressed in uniform and armed with sophisticated weapons opened indiscriminate fire on the Borobekra police station and the adjoining CRPF camp in Jakurdhor of Jiribam district. After the fierce encounter, the force also seized a large cache of sophisticated weapons.

 

15 companies of CRPF and 5 companies of BSF

According to sources, out of the 20 companies of CAPF which have been ordered to be deployed in Manipur, 15 are from CRPF and five from BSF. 198 companies of CAPF are already deployed in the state since the ethnic violence started in May last year. More than 200 people have been killed in this violence so far. The situation has been tense since last week after fresh violence broke out in Jiribam, Manipur.

 

Complete shutdown in Imphal valley affects normal life

Normal life was affected in Imphal Valley on Wednesday due to a total bandh called by 13 civil rights organisations to protest the abduction of three women and children by insurgents in Jiribam district. Business establishments and educational institutions remained closed in five Imphal Valley districts - Imphal East, Imphal West, Thoubal, Kakching and Bishnupur - due to the bandh. Private and public transport also remained off the roads and government offices witnessed bare attendance, officials said.

 

Let us tell you that 10 militants were killed in an encounter with security forces in Jiribam district on Monday. Police officials said that armed militants had attacked the CRPF post in Jakurdhor and the nearby Borobekra police station. At least 10 militants were killed in retaliatory action by security forces. It is being told that 6 people including 3 women are missing after this encounter.
